A strategic plan guides an organization for three to five years. NESC has developed over 40 strategic plans with a wide variety of clients. An NESC strategic plan is not just a report. It is a tool to help the organization meet its goals.
An NESC strategic plan typically includes a situation analysis, key priorities, and an implementation plan.
The situation analysis (often known as SWOT) examines an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. To complete the analysis, NESC consultants interview key stakeholders (board and staff members. donors, clients/members, and community leaders), review the organization’s documents, and conduct research.
We then develop a set of findings and present them to the strategic planning committee and the board of directors. After that, we work with the strategic planning committee to develop a set of priorities (generally no more than five). Each priority has its own set of strategies and tactics.
The last piece is the implementation plan. This is a detailed list of tasks, timelines, and responsibilities for implementing each priority. The plan is designed to ensure that the tasks are completed on time.
