Often in conjunction with our work in helping a nonprofit develop a strategic plan, NESC consultants will plan for and facilitate a board retreat with board members and key staff members. Prior to the retreat or board meeting, the NESC consulting team will interview all board members and key staff individually to ascertain their views on the organization and any prior strategic plan, its strengths and weaknesses, its planning ability, its fulfillment of its mission, the productivity of the board, and other issues that are relevant to reviewing its mission and developing a strategic plan and setting priorities for the next 3-5 years.
- For a New York-based organization serving the mental health community through its funding of research, educational and advocacy activities, NESC, as a follow-on to the development of a strategic plan, conducted a two-day board retreat to review and to establish the implementation phase of the new strategic plan.
- A Staten Island museum asked NESC to facilitate a board retreat on strategic planning and board development to strengthen governance and committee structure and to motivate its board to raise money.
- For a Long Island service organization, NESC conducted a day-long retreat for board members and key staff as an essential step in reviewing its mission statement and developing a strategy for the next five years.
- For a New Jersey nonprofit, NESC consultants conducted workshops on marketing and public relations, strategic planning and financial management.
- For a Connecticut social services agency whose long-time director was retiring, NESC consultants interviewed board members to ascertain their views on the future direction for the agency, and guided their development of a new five-year plan.
