NESC's Long Island Region has been serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties for over 15 years. Its consultant base includes professionals who live in Long Island as well other consultants from the tri-state area. This provides a consultant force of highly seasoned professionals whose goal is to “give back” by helping the nonprofit sector address the many challenges it faces as a result of today's uncertain economic and political environment. The Region's efforts have been particularly effective in helping the clients meet those challenges. Of particular note are recent consultancies undertaken in the areas of marketing and branding as well as in the area of social enterprise.
The Long Island Region prides itself in the high quality of its work. This is evidenced by the longevity of its relationships and the number of organizations which have utilized NESC's services on a repeat basis:
- Family Service League has been delivering social services to the Long Island community since 1926, and NESC has been providing consulting services to the Family Service League since 1995. These services cover a wide spectrum of business functionalities from marketing to supervisory/management training.
- Life's WORC, founded in 1971, provides comprehensive support services in Long Island and Queens for individuals with developmental disabilities, including mental retardation and autism. NESC has had a productive relationship with Life's WORC since 1999, having completed five consultancies with this client.
- Outreach Project has been providing drug and alcohol services in the New York metropolitan area since 1980, and NESC has been working with Outreach since 1996. During this time NESC consultants conducted 12 assignments which include strategic planning, organizational analysis, marketing and branding, cost management and human resources.

Board Development/Mission

Board Retreat Facilitation
NESC conducted a retreat for board members and key staff of a Long Island service organization as a first step in reviewing its mission statement and developing a strategy for the next five years.
Social Enterprise
For a Long Island service agency, NESC's social enterprise team devised a business plan to develop a new and consistent income stream which would capitalize on the unique capabilities of the agency's IT services and support its primary mission.
Branding
The NESC team conducted a branding consultancy for a rehabilitation facility to address the need for greater visibility and a new image to ensure continued growth and market penetration.
Mentoring
A social service organization received six months of guidance in managing its Supply Department.
Facilities Management & Space Planning
A Long Island affiliate of a national social service organization needed NESC's assistance to ensure that its real estate facilities were being put to their best use and that monies spent represented an efficient expenditure of resources.
Financial Management
The NESC team conducted an analysis of the costs structure of a social service organization in order to maximize its financial performance.
Operations Review
To respond to the need of a local agency for effective measurement systems targeted to its after-school programs, NESC helped define outcomes measurements to improve the students' math and reading skills.
